Claus Raible
Pianist/composer Claus Raible (b.1967 Karlsruhe, Germany) is ‘one of bebop’s modern lifeguards, resuscitating the music with a newfound vitality’. He studied piano under Harold Neuwirth at the University of Fine Arts in Graz, Austria, graduating with honors in 1992. By his early 20s he had performed with Art Farmer, Andy Bey and Mark Murphy. In 1992, Raible moved to New York City where he studied with the revered pianist/educator Barry Harris. In 1998 Raible returned to Munich, Germany, and has since played with such jazz greats as Jimmy Cobb, Charles Davis, Herb Geller, and Benny Golson. Raible teaches at the University for Music and fine Arts in Graz, Austria. He is among those piano maestros who feel especially indebted to the musical heritage of the bebop pioneers. Ray Comiskey commented in The Irish Times that Raible »…speaks bop’s lingua franca like a native …«.
