Dave Liebman
Saxophonist Dave Liebman (b.1946 Brooklyn, N. Y.) began classical piano lessons at the age of nine, and saxophone at 12. Liebman has been in the forefront of jazz throughout his career. In the early through mid-seventies he worked with such jazz legends as Elvin Jones and Miles Davis. His work and recordings with his own groups featuring the likes of John Scofield, Richie Beirach, Bob Moses und Billy Hart brought Liebman to the fore as a composer. A renowned educator, he is Artist in Residence at the Manhattan School of Music, and guest artist at the University of Toronto and Berklee College of Music. His numerous awards include International Association of Jazz Educators Hall of Fame(2000), French Government Order of Arts and Letters (2009) Record of the Year (2010), and the Jazz Masters Lifetime Achievement award from the National Endowment of the Arts (2011).
