Jürgen Friedrich
Pianist/composer Jürgen Friedrich (b. 1970 Braunschweig, Germany) studied with John Taylor, Joachim Ullrich und Bill Dobbins at the Cologne University of Music. He has worked with Dave Liebman, Nils Wogram, Céline Rudolph, and as pianist of the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra. His Pirouet album Monosuite features a quartet of world-class soloists interacting with the Sequenza String Orchestra. It highlights his compositional gifts and was lauded as »…a maelstrom of undiscovered beauty« by Jazzstation.com. Among the citations he has received are the Gil Evans Award for Jazz Composition, the New German Jazz Composition award, and the Julius Hemphill Composition Award given by the USA’s Jazz Composer’s Alliance. Friedrich is also in charge of master studies in composition and arrangement at the Mannheim University of Music and the Performing Arts.
